"Learn toThrill Your Audiences
with Nonverbal Power"
Introduction: According to
many of the researchers of body language or what I like to call
nonverbal communication; between 65 and 85% of human communication
is nonverbal. The way we stand,
our facial expressions, our hand gestures and our entire body movement
communicate more to our audience than our actual spoken words.
The science of body movement; known today as Kinesics, has shown
that the body represents the subconscious mind and does not and
cannot lie. Said another way: the body projects and signals what
you're REALLY FEELING without you, many times, being conscious
of it. Your body can also contradict your words. The key to this
teaching is becoming aware of, practicing and then integrating
your own nonverbal cues and signals.....
"All the World's
A Stage...Acting Tips for Speakers"
When we talk about taking
techniques from the acting world to use for the speaker; we are
not talking about being theatrical. We are talking about using
acting techniques to help us as speakers to heighten our dramatic
interpretation. To become more dramatic and compelling on a consistent
basis. Just as actors have to deliver a consistent performance
in long running shows; so speakers, to be effective, should deliver
consistently exciting, touching and motivating speeches. No one
wants to see a boring actor or speaker. The first technique is
the idea of the speaker as a character. You are playing yourself.
How do you play yourself? You recognize and recreate your behaviors
and especially as they relate to your speech topic. The second
technique is the breaking of inhibitions.....
"The Awesome Power of the Silent
Motivator: Your Body Language Speaks"
Come on in black with neutral
white mask... (This is the one minute “Body
Language Ballet” that will be mimed to music. This is an
intro that is completely improvised and is played to the audience.
End with mime lean and arm in the air like, “Oh well!” Take
off mask and ask the audience): Does the body talk or what? As
you just witnessed, it does and its driving force is, what?
Thought and emotion. No words came out of my mouth but you got
the gist of what I was saying. My talk today is designed
to help you understand how to be more aware of your body language
so that you use it more consciously in your speaking. I’ll
be conducting this educational in a workshop style with some audience
participation.....
"The Biggest Revelation"
Intro: I’d like to
welcome you into the world of the planet’s
only talking mime...because I have something to say. Background:
Raised by deaf mother and brought into deaf world. Ten years as
professional mime. 25 Years as media salesman. Four years in toastmasters.
Ten years in PAYBAC. Body Language: Not body language. Its nonverbal
communication. The power of nonverbal communication. Becoming empowered
by realizing that nonverbal communication is natural to Humans
and that we become empowered by becoming aware of the cues and
signals we and others send out. Mime: Not talking about mime as
we currently perceive it in the mass consciousness as street mimes
or mimes in TV commercials with berets, stripped shirts.....
"Making Your Physical Expression
Speak with Ease"
The art of non-verbal communication
introduction 5 minutes I might as well disappoint all of you up
front. You all really are, all of you without exception, natural
mimes, and natural movers!! That’s
right; movement comes naturally to human beings. We can’t
help it. This, what you’re looking at (point to your
body), is a complete unit that Kinesthetically
(definition: the science dealing with the interrelationship of
the physiological processes and anatomy of the human body with
respect to movement) learns a pre-determined vocabulary that communicates
on a non-verbal level. Who determines the vocabulary? We do, culturally.
We all respond to that vocabulary from the moment we’re born
(do some crying movements like a baby). So, why.....
"Speakers and Actors: The Greatest
Tool to Free Your Silent Expression"
Start “party” dance
music as students enter the workshop. Let them dance for several
minutes then call out “freeze.” Ask them to look at
each other in their frozen positions. You have just witnessed
mime. Soap Box: Mime is something you do every day. All humans
are natural mimes. Mime is inherent in every thing. Birds, wind,
rocks, the stars and water. Everything in the universe is in motion.
It is atomic. It is vibrational. While some have more of a penchant,
skill, talent or bent toward mime movement; everyone has a capacity
to do it. What’s this workshop about? The power in music
to move you to more creative mime movement. This is inherent in
the universe and inherent in all of us. Here’s how this workshop
will work. I will play music and you will pick a theme.....
"The Secrets to Making Your
Body Talk"
(Walk out on stage and do
the gestures of me? and oh no not me, both arms up for surrender,
the number 10 and it wasn’t me.)
I didn’t have to say a word and what I just did caused some
kind of thought or reaction in you. I got your attention with the
power of nonverbal communication that naturally resides in you.
In my experience, I found that while the verbal content of what
we say is very important; how we embellish it with our nonverbal
language projects our truer intentions. More than ever, your nonverbal
abilities are needed to enhance your business and personal leadership.
I’m going to show you how people project their truer intentions
and how you can positively influence them with understanding body
language or more.....
"The Truth of Never Losing a
Sale with Nonverbal Power"
You probably don’t
remember that silent cry (or, perhaps it wasn’t so silent
and you bawled your eyes out) you made at the time of your birth.
That was one of your first non-verbal signals to your mother and
the world at that oh so tender age. This made you, without exception,
a natural talking mime! Welcome to the non-verbal skills of being
human. That’s right, mime comes naturally to human beings.
We just can’t help it. A caveat to the concept of Mime: When
I say Mime, I want to make clear that I am not talking about the
white-faced, stripped T-Shirt, beret wearing, person that annoys
or mimics people in theme parks, movies, on streets or TV commercials.
Been there, done that (show picture of yourself doing street mime).
I want to be clear that I’m talking about.....
"Hey, Speakers, Relax Your Body...Relax
Your Audiences"
(Begin with silent mime cry).
That was a body language signal to my deaf mother at the tender
age of birth! I quickly learned to add the voice component so I
could get my hearing father into the act. Hence, I stand before
you, having had mime and the added vocality instilled in me right
out of the womb, producing the world’s
only true talking mime! Yes, I admit...a contradiction in terms.
Yet, you may be surprised to learn that you are all, without exception,
natural mimes! That’s right; mime comes naturally to human
beings. We just can’t help it. A caveat to the concept of
Mime: When I say Mime, I want to make clear that I am not talking
about the white-faced, stripped T-Shirt, beret-wearing person that
annoys or mimics people in theme parks.....
"Make More Sales Selling Soul
to Soul"
How many of you like to talk
to yourselves? Some of you already do and I’m sure some of
you might be a little weary of it because you believe others might
think you’re crazy! Maybe
you do it in private? I know you’ve seen people talking to
themselves...I have! Ever wonder what they’re saying to themselves?
Whether you know it or not there is someone to talk to in there
and there’s more than one BODY in there. As a matter of fact...there
are four distinct bodies that make up a human being and you can
have a conversation with each. “What do you mean each of
us has four different bodies? That’s an absurdity!” I
understand how you feel, I felt the same way when I first discovered
it. Is it possible that each one of us is composed of four distinct
bodies.....
"The Secrets of Body Language
I learned from my Deaf Mother"
(Walk out on stage and gesticulate
wildly. Walk off stage. Walk on stage using very little arm movement.
Open your arms wide to audience. Gesture to audience saying never
mind.) Because I was born to a deaf mother; I had the distinct
advantage of discovering, early in my life, that a very large percentage
of human communication is nonverbal! Please allow me to qualify
that. In my experience, I found that while the verbal content of
what we say is very important; how we embellish it with our nonverbal
language projects our truer intentions. Some examples are: stroking
the chin, steepling, hands on top of head, hands behind neck, sad
face saying “I’m really glad to be here,” hands
on hips and shaking head as in no and saying something positive.....
"Flex Your Body...Flex Your
Audiences! Movement Tips for Speakers"
You are all natural talking
and speaking mimes. That’s right. Everyone in this room is
a master of what I call nonverbal body expression. This comes naturally
to all human beings. Our body is our instrument for communicating
with one another. My goal today is to empower you as a speaker
through the use of the power of the whole body movement. You have
seen the whole body movement of greats like Charlie Chaplin, Marcel
Marceau, John Ritter and Jim Carey to name a few, yes? While they
may have taken their body expression to theatrical heights; what
they have is inherent in you. Today, I am going to use this time
as a coaching session to show you how to let your entire body speak.....
"Commanding on Stage Charisma
with More Aware Body Language"
According to social anthropologist
Edward Hall, 60 per cent of our communication is non-verbal. There
are some studies that claim that it’s even higher and some
say its lower. Whatever the percentages; the way we stand, our
facial expressions, our hand gestures and our entire body movement
communicate more to our audience than our actual spoken words.
Through the study of Kinesics or the science of body movement that
was first developed by Ray Birdwhistel; it has been discovered
that the body represents the subconscious mind and cannot lie.
The body projects and signals what you’re really feeling
without you, many times, being conscious of it. In my estimation
then, the key to this teaching is becoming aware of.....
"Turn Down the Volume...Turn
Up the Silence"
Commanding Your Nonverbal Expression.
(Enter platform with three different postures, expressions and
walks. Scared. Egotistical. Confident and happy to be there.) I
didn’t have to say a word and the different ways I entered
provoked a thought or reaction in you. What did my postures reveal?
You don’t have to be steeped in body language to understand
that my first entrance communicated that I was afraid, the second
entrance that I was overconfident and the third that I was happy
to be here. It never ceases to amaze me how we can get people’s
attention with the simple body language that naturally resides
in all of us? A simple smile, a warm, friendly handshake, a nice
pat on the back. As I am sure you know; a big mystique surrounds
body language.... |
